IRS AND TAX CONTROVERSY

Receiving a letter from the IRS has been deemed one of the top 100 most stressful events in a person’s life; receiving a Notice of Examination is in the to 10. At Dorot & Bensimon PL we strive to alleviate the stress of dealing with the IRS to avoid the manifestation of a nightmare.

With years of experience dealing with the IRS, we have learned that reaching a favorable resolution is not a science and in fact is an art. People a quick to forget that behind the ominous letters I, R and S, sits a revenue agent who is a person just like you. And just like you, they have a job to do. We approach every case only after a full analysis of the matter and open lines of communication with the IRS. Our goal is to reach the most favorable result possible, at the lowest cost and in the fastest way.

We specialize in handling international tax controversies, whether an audit, appeal or matters related to collections. While most cases are resolved at exam or appeals, we are always prepared to take the case to court and litigate your rights.

RESOURCES:

Taxpayer Bill of Rights. Each and every taxpayer has a set of fundamental rights they should be aware of when dealing with the IRS. Explore your rights and our obligations to protect them. Read more about your rights on the IRS website: https://www.irs.gov/taxpayer-bill-of-rights#informed.

Offer In Compromise. An offer in compromise allows you to settle your tax debt for less than the full amount you owe. It may be a legitimate option if you can’t pay your full tax liability, or doing so creates a financial hardship. Taxpayer Advocate Services. The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is your voice at the IRS. The IRS strives to ensure that you are treated fairly, and know and understand your rights. If you are having tax problems and have not been able to resolve them with the IRS, you may be eligible for free TAS help. IRS Payment Plan/Installment Agreement. A payment plan is an agreement with the IRS to pay the taxes you owe within an extended timeframe. You should request a payment plan if you believe you will be able to pay your taxes in full within the extended time frame. If you qualify for a short-term payment plan you will not be liable for a user fee. Not paying your taxes when they are due may cause the filing of a Notice of Federal Tax Lien and/or an IRS levy action.
